International Women’s Day

It's competition time!

Welcome to our International Women’s Day competition, where you’ve got as much chance of winning as anyone else, regardless of your gender!

It’s International Women's Day. Often shortened to IWD, International Women’s Day grew out of the labour movement to become a recognised annual event by the UN. The seeds of it were planted in 1908, when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter working hours, better pay and the right to vote.

As the years went on this event gained traction in Europe. Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Denmark honoured it for the first time on 11th March 1911. On 23rd February 1913 and 1914 women in Russia celebrated their first ‘women’s days’. And later it was decided that the world over could mark this occasion on the same day every year. So 8th March was settled upon as the date to celebrate female achievement and moreover, to promote gender equality.

The theme for this year’s IWD is #ChooseToChallenge. Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day. We can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

It’s in this very same spirit that we created Girl Power. This card game was designed by our very own inspiring female, Marty Pardoe, who was recently named in the Mojo 100 influential figures working in the toy and game industry. And it celebrates female achievement by highlighting the accomplishments of famous women, from the early trailblazers to the modern era. Girl Power was born out of a desire to create a positive game that would inspire young girls to celebrate their gender, and challenge gender inequality when confronted with it.

Talking of inspiring females and the #ChooseToChallenge theme, we’d like to challenge you to take to our Insta page, follow us and tag two inspiring women in your life. This will not only give a supportive shout out to your sister, mother, daughter or bestie, but it’ll also get you in with a chance of winning your very own copy of Girl Power.

Happy International Women’s Day. Best of luck. And remember, from challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge.

This competition is for UK residents only, and the deadline for entries is 9pm on Tuesday 9th March. We will be announcing the winner on Wednesday 10th March.
